Fresh from the Sydney Fringe Festival, Marcel brings the story of the ukulele legend George Formby to Canberra and its very first Cabaret Festival.
George Formby was an amateur who transformed into a music hall genius, known for his intimate connection with his audience. He gave them what they wanted, and they adored him for it. His songs were filled with cheek and innocent innuendo. Despite criticism and BBC bans, the public couldn’t get enough. Formby embraced his real fans, the working-class people. He was a true people’s comedian.
