Louise Bennet

Louise Bennet is a Melbourne-based actor who had her beginnings in Canberra performing for the Free-Rain Theatre Company, Canberra Rep and the Street Theatre. She appeared in productions such as: Amadeus (Katherina Cavalieri); Of Mice and Men (Curley’s Wife); On the Razzle (Lisette); Comic Potential (Jacie Tripplethree); The Importance of Being Ernest (Cecily); The School for Scandal (Lady Teazle); and Boston Marriage (Claire). She also undertook short film, documentary, commercial and voiceover projects for Bearcage/WildBear Entertainment.

After playing Ophelia for the late, great Stephen Pike in his production of Hamlet at Theatre 3, Louise successfully auditioned for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London (RADA) to study Shakespeare. Under creatives such as John Adams, Nona Shepphard, Lorna Marshall, Bret Yount, Adrienne Thomas, Gregory de Polnay, Christopher Heimann and Katya Benjamin, Louise gave her major performances in Twelfth Night (Olivia), Henry VI Part 2 (Dame Eleanor/Simpcox’s Wife), and Henry VI Part 3 (Queen Margaret). With mentoring from Maria Aitken, Louise has masterclass experience under David Morrissey, Derek Jacobi, Joanna Lumley and Leith McPherson.

When not acting, Louise has hosted podcasts for the University of Melbourne and Victoria Legal Aid and is a published writer. She is an Impact Producer (Ithaka, 2021), a regular guest lecturer in Press Freedom and International Law at Swinburne University, and runs advocacy campaigns for press freedom, whistleblower protections and Palestinian Human Rights.

This is Louise’s ACT Hub debut, returning to Canberra by special invitation of the Free-Rain Theatre Company.
